Local dentists restoring community, a smile and a life

Drs. Ted, Wendy and John Poczatek and Dr. Holt Gray established Project Restore to help revitalize their community.

Giving back to their community is very much on the minds of this young and vital dental practice. While all of the doctors are very active in their own church charitable activities, the group knew that they could do more.

With a thriving dental practice, Drs. Poczatek and Gray have established Project Restore: an annual event designed to help raise funds to restore damaged and historic community structures with donated teeth whitening services, culminating in the awarding of a $10,000 dental makeover to a deserving local resident.

Project Restore 2011: Family fun to aid in tornado relief and recovery

Luma Dentistry’s first Project Restore event was held in the parking lot of their office behind Premiere Cinemas Tannehill on May 7, 2011, and was a rousing success!

Drs. Holt Gray and Ted, John and Wendy Poczatek organized the event, donated 100 dental whitening appointments and held other raffles and activities to raise money for Hands On Birmingham to aid in local Tornado Relief and Recovery and Tannehill Ironworks Historic State Park.

The day was a fun family event with classic cars on display, live music from Beanstalk music, an iPad giveaway, games, professional face art and bounce house for kids, book signings, food and refreshments.

Donations to Restore the Community

The event was highlighted by the opportunity to donate directly to Hands On Birmingham and receive free services such as professional in-office teeth whitening and custom trays to brighten a smile by the Luma Dentistry team, chairside massage by a Licensed Professional Massage Therapist, Project Restore T-shirts and raffle tickets for an iPad giveaway and other prizes donated by local businesses.

Allstate Insurance and Motivated Movers provided a moving truck to collect donations for tornado relief and delivered items to Cross Road Baptist Church in Hueytown for distribution. Hands On Birmingham was engaging the crowd and encouraging volunteer work and community service.

Randy Webb and Beanstalk Music organized nine acoustic bands to donate their time and talents for the day and inspired patrons to volunteer and donate to Hands On Birmingham. The line up for the day included: George Scherer, Jeff Allred, Motel Ice Machine, Jim Hughes, Steve Norris, Paper Cranes, Steve and Bunn, Rusty Allen, Tammy Hart and more.

The project was a great success as over $7,000 was raised through generous donations from everyone involved. This would not have been possible without the support of local sponsors: Allstate Insurance, Oxmoor Valley Orthodontics, Pediatric Smiles, Millenium Physical Therapy, Courtyard Café, Matthew Litz, DDS, LLC, Periodontist, Dr. Ronald Dichiara, DDS, Endodontist, Premiere Cinemas, Sir Speedy, Fravert Services, APEX Endodontics, BRUM Advertising, Grace Life Church, Beanstalk Music, The Tannehill Trader, Chick-Fil-A, Bob Sykes BBQ and The Sibley Home.

Restoring a life by restoring a smile

Project Restore concluded with the revealing of the $10,000 Dental Makeover Package Winner and a luncheon for the winner with the sponsors and volunteers. Bob Sykes BBQ and The Sibley Home designed and sponsored a beautiful luau feast.
