I am a victim of bad dentistry. I let someone put in veneers, and they came off and there was nothing under the veneers as every tooth was rotten. My teeth were destroyed by normal stomach acid.

A colleague looked at my mouth, and recommended that I see a prosthodontist.

I chose Dr. Gray for several reasons. First, he has had wonderful training. Something that makes him stand out amongst prosthodontists is that he is recently trained, and remains affiliated with the University. Because he teaches there and interacts with the faculty, he keeps up with the literature is familiar with all of the new developments in prosthodontics and can take advantage of this.

Secondly, Dr. Gray understands that dental treatment works best when it is approached as a partnership between the dentist and the patient. He has been very willing to listen to my ideas, and discuss treatment options that I have read about. He has researched the options, and discussed the pros and cons with me.

Our plan is to work out what we are going to do in what sequence, and according to my budget. In this manner we have worked out a treatment plan that I feel confident about and that I am very happy with.

I am going to need four dental implants and fixed bridges. He has already done the extractions and the necessary bone grafts. The work has been excellent.

I feel confident when I come to this office that I will be listened to, and that I will get the best possible dental care. With a prosthodontist and three other dentists with advanced training, they have an excellent multi-disciplinary practice. And the facilities speak for themselves—brand new, spacious and the space plan is comfortable and homey. I feel comfortable here, and I think you will too.

When I think of Dental Care for myself, I think of Dr. Holt Gray.

I have crowns from the Gray Father-Son Team in my mouth. Dr. Holt Gray was our Dental Student, our Prosthodontic Resident, and our Colleague on the Dental School Faculty at UAB. In each situation Holt displayed his usual calm dedicated hardworking mannerism that enables him to be outstanding amongst his peers.

One cannot mention Holt without thinking of his father, Jordan Gray, who is the owner of Gray Dental Laboratory. During my 20 years with the UAB Graduate Prosthodontic Programs, all Crown, Bridge and Implant Laboratory Procedures were provided by Gray Dental Laboratory. His support for our Full Mouth Rehabilitation patients is especially noteworthy, providing technically outstanding appliances with magnificent esthetic results.

Dr. Gray has assembled an excellent group of Colleagues at Luma Dentistry. I am proud to say that I have had a part in the education of each one.

My professional relationship with Dr. Gray began while we were both dental residents at UAB. In my practice of orthodontics, it seems like more and more patients want the option of IV sedation for their collaborative dental needs, such as difficult extractions or exposures and even complex restorative plans. The first thing that comes to mind when somebody asks me about Dr. Holt Gray is that he is someone who has based his career on honesty, professionalism and most importantly, commitment to his patients and work. I have known Dr. Gray for more than 14 years, and I feel blessed to be able to call him not only my colleague but one of my best friends.

I met Dr. Gray when we attended the Graduate Prosthodontics Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2004. We worked together for three years in some of the most challenging cases I have ever encountered. As a child, I experienced a traumatic visit to the dentist’s office. As a teenager and an adult, I’ve feared the dental chair.

Luma Dentistry is completely different. The facilities are very modern, cordial and inviting. The entire staff have made my visits more relaxed, and my dentists have exhibited concern and care for my comfort to the highest extent.

I decided to straighten my teeth with Invisalign because I was having multiple problems with my gums, teeth getting loose, and bone loss. My periodontist and Dr. Gray recommended that I do it for that reason.

I’m now halfway through my Invisalign treatment, and the last time I went to see my periodontist he was dancing! I had one of my best checkups ever. On my last hygiene appointment, Dr. Gray and my hygienist were also really pleased.

I also love the way that Invisalign is changing my looks. I never used to smile with my mouth open. I smile differently now, and I’m only halfway there! I’m not so self-conscious any more about my crooked teeth. They have moved so quickly for someone my age. It has been very fast.

I’m looking forward now to finishing my Invisalign treatment, as I am going to get an implant for a tooth that I lost, and get my teeth whitened.

It started when I fell off my bike onto my tooth and the trauma must have caused a slow infection. Eventually I had to get a root canal but that actually made it worse. Finally, a friend referred me to Luma Dentistry.

What had happened was that at my previous dentist they had only taken X-rays from the side and so couldn’t see the extent of the damage and what was really happening.

I have never been a big fan of going to the dentist, but they made it a very comfortable and easy process, so when it was done I was very satisfied with the end result. Dr. Gray saved my tooth and the future health of my teeth.
