Crowns & Bridges

Natural-looking, durable permanent crowns in a single visit

At Luma Dentistry, we use state-of-the-art E4D technology to design and create natural-looking, durable, all-porcelain crowns in just one visit. This means you don’t have to wait for your permanent restoration to be manufactured at a lab, a process that can take about two weeks.

How E4D Works

The E4D CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture) system allows our doctors to design, create and adjust porcelain crowns right here in our office.

Fast, easy digital impressions

With E4D, impressions are powder and gunk-free. Using a handheld digital camera, a series of pictures are taken to create an extremely accurate 3D image of your mouth.

Custom-designing your crown

Dr. John uses the E4D software to design and preview your restoration. That image is then sent to the milling unit.

Custom-milling your crown

Your crown is milled quickly and with extreme accuracy out of a single block of durable, high-grade porcelain that looks like real tooth material. Dr. John will take care of the cosmetic work to ensure that your new crown looks aesthetic and natural.

Adjusting for the perfect match

The finishing touches are made to ensure that your new crown looks natural and fits comfortably in your mouth and that you’re happy with it.

Benefits of the E4D system

  • Fast: With E4D, we create your long-lasting, final restoration in just one visit, whereas patients usually have to wait for two weeks for a lab-manufactured restoration.
  • Natural, aesthetic appearance: Your restoration is fabricated out of a high-grade ceramic porcelain that resembles real tooth material, resulting in a natural-looking, beautiful smile.
  • Strong and durable: E4D creates strong and durable restorations that are resistant to cracking and breaking.
  • Accurate matching: E4D restorations are designed to match your adjacent teeth and look natural.
  • Biocompatible: The all-porcelain material in E4D is free of metal and non-toxic.
  • Economical: E4D restorations are more affordable than traditional lab-manufactured crowns.

Inlays and Onlays in one visit

The E4D system creates high-quality porcelain onlays and inlays, which are restorations used to repair large cavities in a tooth. An inlay is placed in the grooves between the cusps (highest points) of a tooth, and an onlay is fitted over the cusps.

An inlay or onlay can be a more conservative option than a crown, which requires cutting down the tooth.

Using E4D technology, the doctors design and mill inlays and onlays out of a porcelain that matches patients’ tooth color. The result is a durable, natural-looking restoration.

Durable, long-lasting, natural-looking bridges

A dental bridge is a tooth replacement option that consists of a series of crowns that span a gap in the teeth. The outer crowns fit over two or more prepared teeth, which have been cut down for this purpose, and these hold the bridge in place.

Your bridge will be designed, fit and placed by Dr. Gray, our resident specialist in dental reconstruction and tooth restoration. He will make sure your bridge is extremely durable, fits perfectly, gives you a very comfortable bite and is color-matched to look and feel like natural teeth.

Dr. Gray will have your bridge constructed precisely for your smile to his exact specifications, using the highest quality materials, at the Gray Dental Laboratory here in Birmingham. Gray Dental Laboratory, which has been providing quality dental restoration products for more than three decades, was established by Dr. Gray’s father.

Dental Implants for missing teeth

Bridges are an economical and simple solution for missing teeth, but they require the cutting down of the healthy adjacent teeth, which can be weakened and made vulnerable to decay as a result.

For this reason, a dental implant is preferable to a bridge and is considered to be the standard of care for replacing missing teeth. The implant can help you preserve the bone in your jaw, and it will look and feel completely natural.

In a consultation, Dr. Gray will study your smile and make a treatment recommendation that will work best for your needs.
