Dr. Wendy is from a military family; she was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science, and from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 2004, where she also met and married Dr. John.
Dr. Wendy received a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in 2005. She and Dr. John returned to the Birmingham area, where she went into private practice with Dr. Kuntal Pandit.
In 2007 and 2008, Dr. Wendy assumed the practices of two retiring Bessemer dentists, Dr. Robert Phillips and Dr. Earl Pate.
Dr. Wendy joined Luma Dentistry as an Associate Dentist in 2009. The practice was founded to restore and impact the lives of those that entrust Luma Dentistry with their care. She believes that their work goes beyond the smile.
For Dr. Wendy, the desire to be with family is intentional. Because Luma Dentistry began with two brothers, there has been a natural progression to grow the practice as a family. When she walks through the door every day, she is surrounded by people with whom she gets to share work, play, celebrations, struggles, and mourning. She feels loved, supported, and connected by their common purpose. They are stronger together, and that shows in their work.
Dr. Wendy is a member of the Birmingham District Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. She has continued with many advanced technical classes, focusing on senior dental care issues such as dentures, periodontal disease, and dry mouth syndrome. She loves educating patients to empower them to make good decisions concerning their oral health and believes that good oral health contributes to one’s physical and emotional health.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Wendy enjoys vegetable gardening and cooking, especially with her husband and her daughters. She loves art and design, and she enjoys creative things like cake decorating and fingerprint art.
